Malabo, Feb. 6, GNA – Two goals from Ivorian Captain Didier Drogba and one from Yaya Toure ensured the Elephants trampled over co-hosts Equatorial Guinea into the last four of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.   The co-hosts were no match for the highly favoured Ivorians, as Drogba could even afford to waste a first half penalty.   The signs were clear for the Nzalang Nacional from the onset after a half-filled capacity at the Estadio de Malabo. Not even the presence of President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo could save them from the tramps of the Elephants, who lived up to their billing as one of the favourites at the tournament.   On the half mark, the Ivorians earned a well deserved penalty after Drogba was fouled by Mamadou Konate. The Ivorian captain failed to score as Clementino Danilo saved his kick from the spot to keep his team back in the game.   On 36 minutes, a blunder by defender Da Gracia Fernando gave Drogba the opportunity to race into defence, beat two defenders before firing past Danilo for the opener.   In the second half, Drogba doubled the lead on 69 minutes with a superb header before Toure sealed victory with a well-taken free kick nine minutes from time.   Earlier in Bata, goals from Sunzu Stoppila, Christopher Katongo and James Chamanga powered Zambia to a 3-0 win over Sudan in the other quarter final clash.
