One of the basic need of any society is shelter and recent development in Ghana have shown a great deficit in our housing delivery. Government attempt to address this problem has resulted in getting A South Korean company to provide 200,000 unit. Meanwhile the deficit stand at a whooping 1,000,000 which makes the this intenvention a drop in the ocean so to speak when capped with the increase in population growth and urban drift which we have experience for the past twenty odd years in this country.

While alternative methods of building abound, we are stuck with concrete block which makes it expensive and less effective in housing delivery. Research by IBR in Kumasi reveal a lot of changes we can make in ways of construction of housing unit.

What we need is mind change and capacity to challenge ourself.

Interestingly, out of the deficit of 1,000,000, i wonder how many can afford the cheapest of all affordable houses. I agree with the fact that other inexpensive forms of building approaches should be adopted. It really points to the fact that our society loves to live above her means. I will definitely use inexpensive materials should they be made available on our markets.

If only the cheaper building materials willl be really cheap, otherwise it is just speculation and mere talk.can someone tell me what the cheapper alternatives are??? can't wait.
