Zabzugu, (N/R), Jan. 21, GNA - Mr John Jabaah Benam, Member of Parliament (MP) for Zabzugu/Tatale constituency, on Friday presented three ambulances valued at GHc 70,000 to three health facilities in the Zabzugu/Tatale District. The MP used part of his share of the MPs National Health Insurance Fund to purchase the vehicles, which have been allocated to health facilities at Zabzugu, Tatale and Nakpali. Mr Benam said he presented the ambulances because people in serious health conditions and women in labour had to travel long distances to health centers. The MP said he transported someone bitten by a snake and a woman in labour to health facilities, and expressed worry that some expectant mothers in the district had lost their lives because they could not get transport to convey them to health facilities early. Alhaji Abdual-Wahab Umar, District Chief Executive of Zabzugu/Tatale, noted that some health personnel did not accept postings to the area because of the lack of accommodation. He said the assembly had built four nurses' quarters in the district and asked health personnel to accept postings to the area. Alhaji Umar appealed to the Regional Health Directorate to supply health facilities in the district with anti-snake serum since the people, mostly farmers, suffer from snake bites. Mr Anthony Tawiah, Director of Administration and Finance at the Regional Health Directorate, who received the keys to the vehicles promised that they would be used for the purpose for which they were bought.
